The Hotel Monte Rosa’s rich history dates back to 1839, when it opened with three rooms as the first inn in Zermatt, a Swiss Alpine resort town at the foot of the Matterhorn. It was acquired by the Seiler family in 1853 and its early guests included Edward Whymper, the first explorer to summit the Matterhorn’s legendary peak.
Located on Zermatt’s lively main street, the four-star hotel continues to charm with its Belle Epoque style and intimate, Alpine ambience. There are 41 rooms and suites appointed with every modern comfort today’s traveler expects, and some have balconies affording spectacular mountain views.
The Hotel Monte Rosa’s historic dining room provides an elegant setting for candlelight gourmet dinners, while Edward's Bar-Cafe offers a cozy spot for an Irish coffee or other specialty drink. Through the Dine Around program, guests at the Hotel Monte Rosa can also choose from 11 other fine Zermatt restaurants at its sister hotels within the Seiler Group. Zermatt is an automobile-free resort town. Parking is available in the village of Tasch, 5 km from Zermatt, with shuttle service available to the hotel, which is also just a short walk from the railway station.
